Oh the Memories

The date - February 23rd, 2013.

Years past my prime, and several seasons of beat reporting under my belt. There is still one thing that amazes me beyond words. Is it the YouTube videos of how awesome Cleveland is (versus Detroit)? Could it be the two Daewoo cars I've seen in the past 10 years? OK that is a close 2nd, how are those cars even still running?? The answer is way past my pay grade.

Guys, it's really obvious, and we have been seeing news flashes and celeb endorsements on it all month. It's Febru-any! I mean, it is the only month where I don't have to think about what I'm getting for lunch each day. Here's the deal - I can get a 12" deal of a lifetime for $5, and only in a few cases $6. My daily dose of CBR (chicken bacon ranch for the noobs out there) or Turkey Breast is the only thing stopping me from chastising the use of Ndamukong Suh in those commercials. I mean what has he won lately...where are his gold medals (althogh he's a pro at stomping on ppl)? I digress

So what are the bottom line impacts of my Subway routine you ask. I've emailed GP to ask him for his margins on footlongs, but he continues to reply back with emoticons. My gut tells me Subway makes up lost margins in the month of February from increased volume. The number two reason is they finally took the Seafood Sensation off the menu...there was over $5 in mayo in those puppies! Wasn't the lobster and crab in there fresh from Maine? Or was it from the Cayuga, I forget. Take a look at my Chase credit card statement at the end of the month. I might as well split a franchise with good old GP.

There is still a week to be able to take advantage of this blockbuster event. I know deep in his heart GP misses the great American Past Time aka Subway sandwhich drafts, but he's got to push past that void in his life and move on. The logistics of that required way more than a college degree. Think bigger, Gary. Expand this incredible event to a yearlong $5 footlong...and I'll stop reporting you to Consumer Alert organizations for serving up 11" rip offs.
